Working principle:


1. A closed cooling tower is actually a combination of an evaporative cooling tower, a cooler, and a wet cooling tower. It is a horizontal evaporative cooling tower, in which the process fluid flows inside the pipe and the air flows outside the pipe, without contact with each other. Closed cooling tower is a deformation and development of traditional cooling towers. The water in the bottom reservoir of the tower is extracted by a circulating pump and sent to the outside of the pipe for uniform spraying. It is a closed cooling tower that does not come into contact with process fluid hot water, refrigerant, and external air, and enhances heat and mass transfer by spraying water.




2. Closed cooling towers are suitable for various cooling systems that require high circulating water quality, and have application prospects in power, chemical, steel, food, and many industrial sectors. On the other hand, compared with air-cooled heat exchangers, evaporative cooling towers utilize the latent heat of evaporation of water under the pipes, significantly enhancing heat and mass transfer on the air side, and also have significant advantages.

Installation of Closed Cooling Tower


1. Selection of installation location


Closed cooling towers are suitable for installation in rainproof sheds or indoors with good ventilation conditions to the outside environment. The space in the exhaust direction should not be less than 2.0m, so that the hot air discharged by the cooling fan can dissipate into the outside environment during operation. There should be a 1.5-2m space in the inlet direction of the condenser on the side of the chiller to ensure the normal working environment of the closed cooling tower. The unit is required to be placed on a solid horizontal foundation, and a certain amount of working space should be left around the unit for easy operation, inspection, and maintenance.


For machine rooms with poor ventilation conditions, it is recommended to add air ducts to guide the hot air discharged by the unit out of the room.


3. Installation of waterways


a. Determination of installation materials:


The closed cooling tower has undergone strict testing and inspection before leaving the factory. Users only need to place the device in place according to the on-site situation and the layout plan of the entire heating equipment. The user's technical personnel carefully read the "Water Cooling Principle Diagram" in the water cooling system manual, and determine the length of the water pipe, gate valve, elbow, union, straight, tee and other pipe fittings, as well as the corresponding hoses and clamps, according to the on-site situation, and connect the cooling water circulation pipeline system.


b. The user's technical personnel will guide the plumber to install the water circuit according to the "Water Cooling Principle Diagram".


4. Installation of electrical appliances


Connect the circuit according to the electrical schematic, and the client only needs to directly connect the power supply to use it. It is recommended to select and design a closed cooling tower wire diameter that is 1.25-1.3 times the total current of the closed cooling tower and other auxiliary equipment (such as water pumps). When distributing power to the unit, the power supply voltage requirement is within ± 10% of the rated voltage. When the voltage fluctuation exceeds the specified range, it is not allowed to start the closed cooling tower. Otherwise, it will be considered as improper operation, and the damage caused by this is not within the maintenance scope of our company.


5. Flush the pipeline and add water to the water tank


After installation, add an appropriate amount of tap water, open the water pump to flush the pipeline, and after a few days of use, drain the tap water and replace it with a full tank (500kg or 1000kg) of soft water (or distilled water) to use normally.


6. Adding water to the sprinkler tank


After installation, it is necessary to add tap water to the sprinkler tank, with an amount of approximately 2/3 of the entire volume (or the connecting pipe should be automatically adjusted by an automatic water replenisher). Regularly clean the sprinkler tank to avoid affecting the spraying effect.


The use and precautions of closed cooling towers


Preparation before startup


a. Check for any abnormalities around the cooling tower;


b. Check if the power supply connection of the cooling tower is appropriate (whether the phase voltage meets the voltage requirements of the chiller unit);


c. Check if all valves in the waterway that need to be opened are open,


d. Check if the water pump and fan are running forward;


e. Check if the circulating water tank of the closed cooling tower is filled with water; Is the water replenishment interface of the sprinkler collection tank connected;


2. Operation of Closed Cooling Tower


Press the two start knobs "water pump on" and "fan on" (the indicator light is on, indicating that both are working), observe whether the water pump rotates clockwise, whether the water flow direction runs in the direction indicated by the arrow, whether the water pressure is normal (normal water pressure is between 0.1 and 0.25 Mpa), and whether there is any water leakage or abnormal sound. Observe whether the wind direction of the fan is upward (if the wind direction is reversed, simply replace 2 wires according to the 3 wires of the fan motor in the electrical control cabinet), and whether there is any abnormal shaking sound. If any problems are found, solve them immediately. If they cannot be solved, please contact our company in a timely manner.


3. Shutdown


Press the "pump stop" and "fan stop" knobs to stop the entire device from working.


4. Automatic temperature control device


The outlet temperature of a standard closed cooling tower is generally not more than 55 ℃, but some equipment requires a lower temperature. This closed cooling tower is equipped with an automatic temperature control device. When the outlet temperature reaches the set high temperature value, it automatically starts the spray water pump; When it drops to the set low temperature value, the temperature control device will turn off the "spray device" and control the outlet water temperature within the temperature range you set regularly.


5. Thermal overload protection reset


This electrical system is equipped with thermal overload relays for both the fan motor and the water pump motor. After the protection action, the red reset button on the thermal overload relay at the lower end of the corresponding AC contactor must be pressed all the way to reset the thermal overload. Otherwise, the "water pump on" or "fan on" button will not be able to close the corresponding AC contactor.


6. Water tank replenishment


Observe the liquid level display tube on the water tank and promptly replenish soft water if the water level is low.


7. Anti freezing


The radiator of this closed cooling tower is composed of multiple sets of copper pipes.


Users with ambient temperatures below 0 ℃ must remember to prevent freezing. After shutdown, residual water inside the copper tube will freeze, which will cause the copper tube to freeze and crack!


The following antifreeze measures can be taken:


a. Install the equipment indoors in a protected area above 0 ℃.


b. When the equipment is installed outdoors (or below 0 ℃), antifreeze can be added to the stainless steel water tank and spray water tank. The amount of antifreeze added should refer to the antifreeze instruction manual.

In winter, when installing water-cooled equipment outdoors or indoors, effective antifreeze measures must be considered when the ambient temperature may drop below 0 ℃. This is a simple and effective device protection measure, reminding users to do this work before winter arrives.
